Andhra Pradesh Introduction
India Travel ForumAndhra Pradesh, India's fifth largest state, is sprawled over an area of 275,068 sq. km. History has forged, and left behind vital links with the state, as is evident from the many edifices, monuments and architectural ruins, the legacy of dynasties as old as 300 B.C. Traces of the diverse and variegated facets of the culture of the Mauryas, Pallavas, Cholas, Satavahanas, Chalukyas and Vijayanagar, offer imposing vistas, that continue to fascinate the observer.

Andhra Pradesh is a symbol of the true spirit of Indian secularism where people of all faiths -Muslim, Buddhist and Hindu form a symphony of religions. Once among the poorest states of the Indian Union, it's transformation to one of the most industialized states has been slow but steady. The state stands on the high Deccan plateau, sloping down to the low-lying coastal regions in the the east where the Godavri and Krishna meet the Bay of Bengal.

The capital Hyderabad, was built by the Qutb Shahi Kings in 1590. Once here visit the Char Minar literally meaning the Four Quartets was built in 1591 to commemorate the end of a plague in Hyderabad. At the Safdar Gunj Museum are on display art , artifacts and trinkets of a wide variety. Also worth visiting are the Golconda Forts and the Qutb Shahi Tombs and the Mecca Masjd Mosque.

Tirupati
Tirupati Is A Major Pilgrimage And Cultural City Located In The Chittoor District Of Andhra Pradesh. It Is Famous For The Venkateswara Swamy Temple Dedicated To Lord Venkateswara, Located About 20 Kilometres North West Of Tirupati In The Tirumala Hills. One Of The Most Important Pilgrimage Centers In The World, The Temple Draws Millions Of Pilgrims And Is The Busiest Pilgrimage Centre In The World. Tirupati City Itself Has Several Temples And Is Famous For Its Red Wooden Toys, Copper And Brass Idols. Also, The City Is A Major Economical And Educational Hub In The Southern Region Of The State.

The Term 'Tirupati' Is Made Of Two Words, Where 'Tiru' Means 'Sri' And 'Pati' Means 'Husband'. Thus, 'Tirupati' Suggests 'Maha Vishnu' Or 'Lord Of Maha Lakshmi'. Dotted With Several Temples And Immersed In The Divine Aura In Conjunction With Scenic Beauty, Tirupathi Appears Truly Charismatic. Apart From Sri Venkateswara Temple, There Are Many Famous Shrines Here, Like Those Of Govindaraja, Rama, Mallikarjuna, Etc.

In The Earlier Times, The Town Was Ruled By The Rulers Of Various Dynasties Of South India. Though Tirupati Temple Is Very Old, Huge Contributions Were Made By Many Kings For Its Development. The Temple Town Represents The Rich Cultural Legacy Of The Past. The Tirumala Hills With Its Lofty Peaks, Further Add To The Glistening Charm Of The Town. Travel To Tirupathi And See The Spiritual Grandeur Of The City Yourself.

Tirupati Is Located At The Foothills Of The Eastern Ghats At A Distance Of 550 Kilometres South Of Hyderabad, The Capital Of The State, 250 Kilometres East OfBangalore, And 150 Kilometres North Of Chennai.
