Now you can just sit comfortably on your couch and book any taxi service in Coimbatore, or anywhere else across the globe via internet or even through your mobile. These rental cars are ready to pick you up from your doorstep, and provide you a safe and secure journey. The transition from horse-drawn carriages to air conditioned taxis did not happen overnight. It has a history of its own. Let’s turn the pages of history of taxis. Inception The Indian call-taxi market boomed only in 2001 with the advent of a couple of call-taxi services. The history of taxis dates back to the 1800’s in New York. During the late 19th century, the popularity and usage of automobiles increased. Though it wasn’t easy hiring an automobile those days as they were still a rarity, businessmen preferred hiring taxis instead of chariots just to flaunt their wealth. Rise in use of taxis The usage of heavy duty batteries in these taxis was the most striking factor, and by the dawn of 20th century, there were around six hundred cabs in the city of New York. By this time, the government decided to have taxi meters for charging the passengers uniformly, based only upon the distances. By the mid 1910’s the streets of the city were flooded with independently owned taxis. Zeroing-in on the business Once the ‘capitalistic’ New York sensed the potential of these hired cabs and taxis, they thought of framing rules and regulations to both the cab drivers as well as the passengers so that they could develop this industry into a lucrative business. Automobile giants like Ford, General Motors designed the first cabs that we now see in bright yellow and black colours plying all over the country. The medallion system This wasn’t the end of the problems popping up regarding taxis; the biggest was yet to come. The taxi drivers surrounded Times Square in protest in 1934 seeking a medallion system which granted more power and wages for taxi drivers, and is still in practice to this day. Regulations governing cabs After the medallion system, even though there wasn’t much of a dissent, there were some protests here and there regarding the usage of mobile phones and radios while inside the cab. However, today the industry has grown at a rapid pace making travelling in taxis a pleasant experience. Moreover, the taxis of tomorrow probably promise much more than we can imagine.   [more]

I was about to attend a urgent meeting in Delhi and I was in a need to had a budget hotel with good rooms there. Before the day of departure I visited the website (http://www.hotelindraprasthadelhi.com) of Hotel Indraprastha which was suggested from Google. I saw the rooms which were listed on their gallery I really got impressed by that but the thing which was going in my mind was a question that will the rooms like that only which I listed on their site? The answer of that question was a true picture that came in-front of me when I arrived at its hotel. The CAB service for my pickup was on time as decided on the email conversation with the hotel staff. Half of the answer was completed by having seeing the hotel in reality and that was awesome, rooms were clean and nicely managed , LCD TV’s are there for your entertainment , washrooms were very good with all the required things what not’s. Hotel was having an uninterrupted wi-fi internet connectivity which was truly beneficial for me , Restaurant on the roof top was “not to go anywhere” kind of attraction because they have a delicious menu with a special dish of the day and nice and clean kitchen with separate utensils for Veg and Non-Veg separation . I was really very impressed from the hotel staff and their hospitality; they were very active in completing my demands on time. In the last I must say that the hotel is very good , An example of great management and a full package to have a pleasant stay in one of the best budget and cheap hotel’s in Central Delhi area.   [more]

The geography of Maharashtra shows evidence of a divine hand. Running north to south, throughout its length are the steeply rising Western Ghats. The foothills sometimes approaching the seashore and sometimes withdrawing 40 or 50 kms away seem to be playing an eternal game with the Arabian Sea. Nestling shyly in these mountains, some at an altitude of 2000 metres, are the hill stations of Maharashtra. These towns offer clean, calm and a thoroughly refreshing alternative to city life. They are probably the only places in India where you can observe the fall of the land all the way to the shimmering sea. Mumbai, India's commercial capital, and easily the most accessible city in this country, is the perfect gateway to Maharashtra's hill country, with convenient and comfortable links by road, rail, and air.   [more]
